Planning is underway to analyze and recommend solutions in three key areas related to ICT security including the Security Framework, Identity Management, and Network Redesign.
Over the next few years the Government of Manitoba will be investing in a number of public sector projects focused on supporting a province-wide “vision” of an electronic health record. These projects must meet the requirements of Provincial and Federal Legislation in addition to business provisions that deal with standards necessary for efficient, accessible and secure health care transactions. It is critical that these business systems are built on a strong information security and network infrastructure.
This project has three streams of activities:
- Security Framework
Ensuring the right people can view what they are authorized to view
- Identity Management
The management of a user’s role and profile on systems and applications, including account profiles, passwords, user authentication, and access rights
- Network Redesign
Identifying Health requirements to support clinical systems for the Provincial Data Network (PDN). This includes network security, capacity management, and network device management
Who Benefits
- Recipients of health care services in Manitoba
Administrative Benefits
- Standardized security mechanisms and the implementation of a shared networking infrastructure will enable all healthcare organizations to maintain a consistent security policy and posture throughout the province
- A province-wide approach relieves the healthcare organizations from the need to redevelop security and networking services continuously for each new application
- Provides the benefit of a coordinated approach across the province to minimize costs and duplication of efforts
