A new provincial Hospital Information System (HIS) for community hospitals and an electronic patient record (EPR) at long term care facilities is in development. All community hospitals (excluding teaching hospitals) and non-proprietary long term care facilities are within this project’s scope.

If the strategy is to keep people in their communities as long as possible, the HIS and EPR will provide much-needed tools to the hospital and long-term care teams in providing better support to their patients. These systems also provide the opportunity to embed Clinical Best Practices through implementation and support of standard processes for assessment, ordering and documentation.
