EMR Deploy Funding Program
Manitoba Health and Manitoba eHealth are in discussions with Canada Health Infoway regarding the opportunity for a jointly-funded electronic medical record (EMR) adoption program to support Manitoba physicians working in the community (i.e. outside hospitals). These discussions are not yet complete and therefore no details are available at this time. We anticipate that, if details of a program are agreed upon, detailed information will not be available until late fall of 2010. We will provide more information when we are able to do so.
To learn more about the services provided by Primary Care Information Systems (PCIS) Office to assist in the adoption of an EMR system or to be added to a mailing list for regular updates please email PCISOffice@manitoba-ehealth.ca or visit http://www.manitoba-ehealth.ca/dr-Network.html.
- The attached interactive electronic medical record (EMR) worksheet was developed by Dr. Chris Burnett. It includes cost assumptions for basic and optional technology components that reflect Dr. Burnett’s own experience and the EMR system he uses.
The worksheet allows you to input factors that apply to you and your clinic (i.e. number of workstations required) to estimate a rough cost for your situation. However, be aware that this is only a rough guide and before purchasing any product you should do a full analysis (with the help of a physician peer leader if you wish).

- Another perspective on cost and experience of moving to EMR is provided by Dr. Michelle Griever, a family physician in Ontario in her blog, Dr. Griever's EMR. The blog chronicles the process of choosing a vendor, implementing a system and the learning pains, rewards and benefits since the initial decision to move to an EMR in 2005.
