EMR Benefit: Remote Access

  • For some, the thought of accessing records outside of your practice may be less than appealing. However, the ability to access electronic medical records (EMR) from another location, such as your home, can come in very handy.

  • Many of us juggle the joys of family life with the demands of our medical practice, and being able to leave the office to spend time with loved ones is important. Imagine if you could log back on from home to finish that consultation letter, review those lab results or even look at tomorrow’s list of patients and activities.

  • An EMR provides a degree of flexibility that a paper chart does not. With an EMR, you can choose when and where to do your work.

  • Perhaps you’re concerned that off-site access could become a security issue. In reality, security may be improved with an EMR. The risk of a paper chart being lost or stolen does not exist. A good system will address security at all levels. Ask your vendor how their EMR system can improve security in your practice.

  • Safety and convenience, family friendly and supportive of physician choice: not a list of features we often hear in family practice.
