Support and services

Below are several resources designed to help you along the path of adopting an EMR - from selecting and implementing an EMR to ensuring EMR use delivers the maximum benefit to the practice. These Supports and Services are provided by Manitoba eHealth's Primary Care/Community Physician Information Systems (PCIS) Office. The PCIS Office is a specialized resource created to support the adoption and effective use of information systems by physicians and primary care providers throughout Manitoba.

EMR Peer Collaboration and Education sessions
Whether you're new to an EMR or not, these sessions offer valuable EMR information from both Manitoba Peer Leaders and other EMR experts. Topics range from what you need to consider when making the switch to an EMR to how to get the most out of an EMR. These sessions are free of charge and continuing medical education credits are being pursued for family physicians and specialists.

EMR Clinic Site Visit
Site visits offer an opportunity for physicians, clinicians, and clinic staff to visit an EMR enabled practice, and see first-hand how an EMR facilitates workflow, improves patient care, and enhances the practice. This valuable insight gained through your customized clinic site visit will help you make decisions for your EMR implementation that will improve your practice both in the short and long term.

Ask an EMR question
Do you have questions related to implementing an EMR within your practice? Perhaps you have an information technology (IT) question or you are looking for some IT guidance prior to selecting a vendor and product or you are looking for information about factors to consider during your vendor/product selection process. Are you looking for clarification regarding any of the EMR Adoption Program agreements? Would you like some help in assessing your vendor quote against the MSA maximum pricing guidelines? If the answer to any of these questions is yes or if you have other questions, we can help. Submit your question(s) or request and we’ll get a response to you within five business days.

Manitoba EMR Toolkit
This toolkit provides information to guide you through the process from EMR selection through implementation and beyond, helping you achieve maximum EMR value. The toolkit contains best practice and planning information as well as short and long term considerations that will provoke thought and support you in making informed choices. It also contains practical tools and templates to leverage as you work through EMR implementation.

Click here to use the toolkit online or print a copy to have on-hand.

Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) support
A Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) is an evaluation tool that your practice can leverage to identify and assess the risks and required safeguards associated with the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA). The tool focuses on PHIA risks associated with collection, use, disclosure, retention, and destruction of personal health information. This structured and standardized assessment is a Manitoba eHealth EMR Adoption Program requirement. Your Clinic Service Representative (CSR) will support you through the process and tailor the approach to the level of support you feel your practice requires.

Reimbursement support
Our goal is to ensure that you are reimbursed for eligible costs in a timely manner. Your CSR can assist with verifying the eligibility of proposed expenses before your decisions are finalized. Your Clinic Service Representative (CSR) is also available to support you as you complete the EMR Adoption Program reimbursement workbook and request reimbursement at each of the funding milestones. The CSR will tailor the level of support provided based on your specific needs - responding to periodic questions, more regular coaching or collaborative completion of the process – you decide.
